(Optial Whitener of Cellulosic Fibres)




Yellow Powder



Soluble upto 150 gm/l in boiling condenced or permatit 

softened water giving a clear and almost colourless solution.



Solution of 1 gm/l have pH of 7 - 8



With the addition of Glauber’s salt TANYA - 2B exhausts very well on to all cellulosic fibres. It exhausts from both alkaline and acid baths. Levelling is good in all applications.



The white effect of TANYA - 2B on the fibre is fast to light, washing, chlorine, alkali, acid, heat and perspiration. Stability to Alum is good at pH 5.5 and above.



TANYA - 2B in bath offers good resistance against Hydrogen Peroxide, Sodium Chlorite and Alkali.



Cellulose fibres can be treated with TANYA - 2B at practically all stages of manufacture in acid and Alkali baths for cellulosic fibres for paper mills.

1. In the mass :

Generally amount required is 0.05 - 0.3% TANYA - 2B calculated on dry substance. The white effect depends on the original whiteness of the bleached cellulose and also of the binders & white pigment used. Solution of TANYA - 2B can be added to the beater, hydropulper, mixing chest or continuously to obtain highest yield, the additions should be made in the following order.





ALUM (if possible 10-15 minutes after addition the TANYA-2B)

The maximum white effect is reached at 0.6%


2. Surface Coatings :

(a) In size Coatings :

The amount required is generally 0.5 - 5 gm/litre TANYA - 2B

To improve the printing & writing properties size solution (reduced starches, CMC etc.) are often applied to the surface on the size press or some other device which may or may not be part of the paper machine. For reasons of economy it is advisable in these cases to add the optical whitener to the size and the basic whiteness of the untreated paper should be as high as possible. For really high whites a small amount of optical whitener needs to be added at the beater stge.

The improve the printing propertiesit is also desirable for the coating slurry to be kept slightly alkaline (pH 8 - 9) with concentrated ammonia, as this also gives an optimum whitening effect. (Maximum whiteness is obtained at 8 gm/litre TANYA - 2BF Liquid.

(b) in Pigmented Coating Slurries :

Generally required amount is 0.5 - 5 gm/litre TANYA - 2B.

TANYA - 2B is particularly suitable for pigmented coating slurries with a starch/latex base due to its high afinity for the normal range of binders. The quantities required again depend on the basic whiteness of the white pigments and binders, the machine speed, of the thickness of the coating and the white effect required.

To obtain the maximum white effect the pH of the coating should be kept slightly alkaline (pH 8 - 9) with concentrated ammonia.

The maximum quantities of optical whitener can be as high as 12 gm/litre depending on the make up of the coating slurry.
